The Farmer’s Market
One of my favorite parts of the summer season is our trips to the Farmer’s Market downtown. We layer the sunscreen, fill the traveling coffee cup, and make our way to Minneapolis.
When you can find the time to enjoy your local Farmer’s Market, you should clear a morning or afternoon and spend a day browsing the fresh produce and other food varieties (and of course stopping at the italian sausage stand for a lunch break and cool lemonade). I find it’s best to go without a list, look for what’s in-season and what looks especially fresh that day.
Last summer, we stumbled upon a great deal on a big crate of gorgeous jalapenos and found a recipe guide
to canning fresh jalapenos. Now our taco nights are never short on spice and the perfect pepper we found one day while browsing the market. It’s good to be open about what you will find, because sometimes the best deal and best looking produce is not what you expect (cue the jalapenos!).
And the Farmer’s Market we frequent isn’t limited to fruit and veggies, but also innumerable stands filled with fresh bakery buys, handmade soaps, fresh herbs, aged cheeses, and jewelry. It’s an outdoor shopping plaza filled to the brim with endless stops and fun purchases.
